The Chinese will seize as many opportunities to advertise as they can, and over the past few decades we have erected many billboards, let ads climb up walls, and let them enter all corners of our lives. Over the years, this phenomenon has conditioned my visual habits, making me feel strange when I am confronted with a field of ads that should be there but are not.
Since Xi Jinping took the chair, Beijing's billboards have gradually stopped displaying advertisements; they have either been left vacant or labeled with political propaganda slogans. But this is not because the government has begun to pay attention to "urban aesthetics," but rather a special case in which advertising has been cut across the Chinese capital for reasons we don't know. Along with this, and the nucleic acid testing booths that have been set up on the side of the road in China over the past two years, the public can notice that the economy is no longer the government's main concern, but the epidemic. People are rarely leaving their homes, many of the proletariat are unemployed and unable to secure their livelihoods, and people are beginning to realize that if they keep "fighting the epidemic", they will not be able to afford to eat.
I come from a middle-class family, and I believe that the economy is an important livelihood issue. I think, at least in China, the boom in advertising is a sign that the economy is working properly, and there are so many places on the roadside in Beijing that are rich in business opportunities for advertising, so why are they left vacant?
I put up "advertising space for rent" posters in many places where I thought there were business opportunities, and left an email address for submissions, but unfortunately, despite the fact that two months had passed, most of the posters had not been removed, and no one had come to submit.
-The size of the poster I printed is A4, because A4 is usually the official paper size.
