Bio
She Luyun (b. 1997, Shenzhen)
based in London and Beijing. Her practice encompasses installation, sculpture, video, and electronic media, situated at the structural core of the techno-capitalist apparatus. As both a beneficiary and a successor of an SMT factory in Shenzhen, she rejects the pretense of the "innocent observer," choosing instead to directly engage with the production systems that simultaneously sustain and erode her.
Raised amidst the mechanical hum of production lines, she developed a primal intimacy with industrial logic and electronic components. This background transforms her practice into a contradictory laboratory. She is fascinated by the aesthetic order of the techno-capitalist system, while remaining acutely aware of its role in the alienation of human emotion. This divided pull drives her work: unable to cease her fascination with the internal order, yet unable to ignore its inherent transgressions, she chooses to directly expose the symbiotic chaos she observes.
She Luyun no longer seeks to "solve" this chaos; she chooses to inhabit it. Confronting the technological landscape, its anxieties, its politics, and its processes of realization, she redeems her right to deconstruct capital by declaring her dual identity: as both beneficiary and victim, participant and observer, insider and whistleblower. She is the transgressor and the casualty. For her, this resistance is honest, rather than being based on moral exoneration. It is the coexistence of these multiple identities that allows her work to serve as evidence, documenting the distortion of the human subject under the pressures of the system.
Recently, she has focused on "Connection" as a core entry point, exploring the structural constraints formed by production logics such as interfaces and protocols. She examines the persistent "summons" of data transmission and technological iteration, seeking to anchor the evidence of alienation at the precise moment connectivity occurs.
